We do need a facility to be able to tailor the descriptions on the TB to the clients' needs. Another way that may be considered for this could be to have some blanks for us to use for more appropriate descriptions.
I too have moved from Iris accounts production to taxfiler as the number of clients have reduced. Due to the diverse range of clients it would be very useful if the headings in the profit and loss could be edited to make the accounts more meaningful to my clients.
One Suze definitely does not fit all and I do not like keep having to apologise to my clients for having to lump so may expenses in sundries as they do not fit anywhere else!
I am semi-retired and have moved from Iris Accountancy Suite to Taxfiler for my small number of retained clients. I am happy with the software but not being able to tailor the P&L account headings to something more meaningful to my clients is a major bugbear. They are diverse businesses and have diverse categories of expenditure. One size does not fit all. One Taxfiler account heading is Telephone and fax!??? - really? Please allow us to choose our headings
Unfortunately, there is no way to add additional headers, lines to the balance sheet or profit and loss account. All the entries will have to be recorded under the one header available on the T.B - It would be great to add additional lines!
We use IRIS desktop trialling Elements. The ability to tailor the chart of accounts is fundamental to whether we go from trial to using the software. Otherwise we are identical accountants to everyone else, in a market where we are trying to offer something different. We use specific account names to record the information on income and costs. We then compare and benchmark to industry standards and across our database of similar clients, to create added value and consultancy. So until then we will not progress.
I have been running your software with a few test clients and just love it.
The ability to amend/rename headings would be great.
Linked to this is the “detailed income statement” in FRS105 accounts. This is an ugly document. The “detailed profit and loss account” in FRS 102A accounts is much better. Please could you allow the use of the detailed profit and loss account with FRS105.
If you do this, I for one will move my whole practice onto tax filer.
I agree, at present there are many limitations with both P&L and balance sheet headings. In order for the software to stay competitive, the sooner these are addressed the better, otherwise some clients will move to other providers .
The other software's with same price range offers this additional ability to modify the trial balance headings as needed so taxfiler should follow the suit. Otherwise, it would be late that I will stop using taxfiler.
Clear leader in the votes. I don't understand why this has taken so long. Taxfiler are raising prices - how about raising your game and adding this simple feature!
It is mad that you cant change headings and descriptions within the trial balance on Tax filer. This can be done in other soft wares eg iris. I have just taken over a new client and want to enter the opening balances, however the descriptions and headings will be different. This is not going to look good for my client. I am advised Tax filer support that I could export the trial balance and accounts and change them. This would result in not being able to submit to companies house through tax filer. COME ON TAX FILER GET THIS CHANGED ASAP. I See from other comments that I am not the only one frustrated by this. Chris Oakes - Oakes Accounting.
I cannot believe this is still not an option in Taxfiler. It must be the only accounts package you are not able to amend descriptions. I am thinking of going back to Iris, more expenseive but a lot more adapatable.
Please can we add R&D to the TB

Income and expenditure for flat management among owners is not profit or loss so heading should be able to change.

New specialist Profit & Loss codes under each main group would be a good idea.

It won't be happening in Taxfiler, it will be in the new Iris Elements Accounts and Tax coming out soon which uses Taxfiler code.
